Our Kathak Training

Soumika Sarkar, a Kathak artist based in Kicthener, ON, Canada, began her formal training in Kathak under Guru Vedanti Bhagwat, a disciple of Pt. Rajendra Gangnani ji. She earned her diploma from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad and consistently works on refining her skills. She has received advanced training from her Guru Vidushi Mahua Shankar ji, a flag bearer of Luckhnow gharana and a prime disciple of Padma Vibhusan Pdt Birju Maharaj ji. 

 

She is trained in both Jaipur and Luckhnow gharana, giving her dance a subtle balance of grace and strength. Soumika's sustained interest in classical art forms started at the age of 6 and still continues. With 20+ years of experience as a performer in Indian classical dance - comprising of 14 years of experience in Kathak, 6 years of experience in Bharatanatyam and 5 years of experience in Hindustani Classical music she continues to dedicate her work towards preserving the traditional art form and innovate with a strong sense of artistic responsibility.

She has performed on numerous prestigious platforms such as - Panorama India, India Canada Association, Parampara production, Inclusive Arts festival (funded by Govt. of Canada), Taste of India, Carrasauga etc.

Soumika is known for her detailed teaching methodology, following the footsteps of her Guru. Her classes go beyond choreographies - delving deeper into technical nuances of Kathak that ultimately develops real dance skills.

Classes

Regular Kathak Training starting from beginner level till Visharad. Opportunity to perform on stage, give exams and certificates provided at the end of each successful year. 

Workshops

Experience the magic of kathak in our workshops held twice a year. This is a short term opportunity to get exposure to the art form. 

Private Coaching

Private coaching provided to exceptional talent after auditions. Focused on advanced kathak practice. Eligibility is minimum 5 years of kathak training.
